‘This is appalling,’ Penelope shouted at her new assistant Francesca.
Francesca was overwhelmed and quickly passed her the agenda book.
Penelope skimmed through the book and continued, ‘get me a sample of the latest Shiseido product before they brief us their vision of the campaign and ad,’ she said expertly, as if she has been doing this for her whole life, ‘confirm the appointment with Kashi executives this Thursday afternoon and make sure their financial analysts attend it.’ She tossed the book back to Francesca.
‘Of course, I’ll get back to you as soon as possible,’ Francesca paused, ‘congratulations on your marriage, Mrs. Teach,’ the door closed before she uttered the last word.
‘My marriage…?’ Penelope repeated to herself. How on earth people got their gossip these days was a mystery to her.
The phone rang the moment she sat down.
‘Penelope Teach,’ she spoke automatically.
‘Hey Penny it’s mum. I’m just calling to say hi. Sweetheart, are you sure about the wedding? Can you at least think it over? Just think it over, okay?’
Oh mum, stop throwing me questions when you don’t even give me a chance to respond, she thought.

Next the fiction will flash back briefly to how Penelope and Brian met and fell in love instantly. Penelope tried to hide the fact that she had no experience in relationships. When the two families were introduced, Penelope’s mother Grace immediately recognized Brian, who worked at the same supermarket as her. To Grace, Brian and his father Ted were alcoholists and womanizers. Grace witnessed how Brian forced himself on other innocent employees, and tried to persuade Penelope to leave him. The story continues when Penelope gradually realizes Ted becomes attracted to her, and finds out Brian only wants her money to cure Ted’s liver disease. She ends the relationship after catching Brian making out with Francesca in her office.
